Before knowing the requirements for USA study visa, you should understand the difference between the two most important USA visas. The first one is a student visa or F1 visa and the second is a student dependent visa or F2 visa.

Passport:- A passport is an official government document that certifies the personal identity and nationality of its holder. You need a valid passport with a validity date of at least six months beyond your period of stay in the USA.

Photograph:- You need passport size photographs. Make sure the photos are recently captured, printed on photo quality paper, and 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size. DS-160 Form: The DS-160 form is the Online Non-immigrant Visa Application form for temporary travel to the United States. You need to have a confirmation page of the DS-160 form or you can say online non-immigrant visa application.

I-20 Form:- The I-20 form is a certificate of eligibility for non-immigrant student status, issued by a Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). This form states that a student has been admitted to a full-time study program and has also demonstrated sufficient financial means to stay in the United States.

Visa fees:- Visa fees include three types of fees. First is the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System fee or SEVIS fee, second is the University offer letter fee or I-20 form fee, and the third is biometric and interview appointment fee or embassy fee. The total cost is around 350 dollars for the SEVIS fee, 160 dollars for the embassy fee, and 50-100 dollars for the offer latter fee.

Reserve Funds:- You should have reserve funds for one year’s living costs and one-year tuition fees. You have proper evidence of reserve funds that you will show with the application. This may include bank statements, financial undertaking by a sponsor to cover your accommodation and living costs, and a scholarship program. This will also give the signal that you have sufficient funds to maintain your living expenses throughout the period of your stay in the USA.

English language:- You have a good command of English for explaining your story while interview time. USA study visa acceptance or rejection is based on interviews. So for that, you must be good at English.

Letter of recommendation:- A letter of recommendation for a USA student visa is a mandatory requirement for admission at all study levels, from bachelor to doctoral courses. Depending on the degree, students are required to submit two to three academic or professional letters of recommendation.

Statement of Purpose:- Statement of purpose, your purpose to study in the USA is clear and well defined. So that, you can communicate well in front of the interviewer.  

Other:- Your University will make you aware of additional requirements if any before your application.

Now you know the requirements for USA study visa for an F1 visa holder, but if you are married or you have a child and you are planning to study in the USA then you should also know about the requirements of your spouse or child visa. This visa is under the category of F2 visa holder or student dependent visa.

But before that, you know that only your spouse and dependent child which means unmarried and under the age of 21 are eligible for an F2 visa.

Following are some requirements for a USA F2 visa holder:

Passport: You need an original passport and photocopies of the F2 visa holder.

DS-160: Visa application confirmation of the F2 visa holder.

Birth certificate: You must have the birth certificate of your dependent children.

Marriage certificate: You must have the marriage certificate of an F1 visa holder.

Copy of F1 visa holder’s I-20 form: You must have your own I-20 form either you are an F1 visa holder or just an applicant.

Financial stability proof: You have the Applicant’s bank statements, tax records, and employment documents as proof of financial stability. Remember applicants must have enough financial resources to support their family in the USA.

Photograph: You need passport size photographs of your spouse or your dependent child. Make sure the photos are recently captured, Printed on photo quality paper, 2 x 2 inches (51 x 51 mm) in size.

Visa fee payment receipt: You have a visa fee payment receipt of an F2 visa holder.

Once you fulfill all these requirements, then the applicant is ready to apply for the F2 visa.
